Jonathan Rolfe is Managing Director of Acies Solutions Limited, a business he established in 2011 having personally found it difficult to find people who really understood business strategy. The company helps its clients deliver winning strategy and develop robust business plans that have successfully secured investment funding even within today’s changing macro-economic environment.
Having graduated from the University of Dundee with a BSc Honours in Computer Science in 1999, Jonathan joined Cirrus Technologies (now Convergys) to work on a multimillion £ BT project providing an easy GUI based provisioning system for the Nortel DMS100 Switch. With a keen interest in business processes and UML, he quickly became a Business Analyst working with the company’s senior managers in defining its next generation of products.
He then moved to Nokia where he spent over 5 years helping clients to define their requirements and championed a new UML approach to requirements management within Nokia that ensured 100% test coverage of clients’ requirements. This approach was well received by clients and also ensured a common ‘language’ was used across the business analysis, design, development, testing and client acceptance phases of projects. In 2005 Jonathan became a project manager within Nokia and was responsible for all aspects of the delivery of large scale and complex international mobile telecommunications projects. Working with major operators across Europe, the Middle East and Africa he developed a keen awareness of the importance of understanding culture in successful project delivery. In 2006 he provided pre-sales support in winning a $190m contract to deliver and run a new network to greenfield mobile network operator ‘du’ in Dubai. Jonathan successfully led three project streams delivering messaging solutions (SMS/MMS), Mobile Portal and Mobile TV with a total value of over $20m to ‘du’.
In 2007 Jonathan graduated from the Birmingham Business School (University of Birmingham) with an MBA in International Business specialising in business strategy. Jonathan went on to lead the development and delivery of the System Integration Strategic Business Unit’s European strategy working closely with the Nokia Siemens Networks’ Corporate Strategy team. Jonathan was also an integrated member of the O2 Account Team. Working directly with O2 UK, he delivered a yearly operational efficiency study that differentiated itself from the many others offered in the market place through aligning its findings to the stated strategy of O2 helping ensure that corporate resources were employed in accordance with stated strategy. As part of this study he was able to identify a potential operational efficiency saving of £29m p.a. He and the team presented the findings of the study and the business recommendations to Ronan Dunne (CEO O2 UK) and his executive team.
In 2010 after having spent 11 years in telecommunications Jonathan moved into the NHS as Head of Business Development and Productivity at one of Europe’s largest Mental Healthcare providers. Here he successfully developed new strategies that secured contracts worth in excess of £30m. Jonathan regularly advised the hospital board on strategic and business issues introducing a private sector way of thinking.
Jonathan has a breadth of business experience encompassing public, private and third sector organisations. He is able to work collaboratively with clients to help them to develop simple yet effective strategies that deliver business growth and secure a competitive advantage.
