Times have changed but goals haven’t

When you look back in history, think about all of the amazing progress, invention and discovery that has taken place.

These were big tangible steps, these are just some of the most significant that come to mind:

  • The steam engine
  • The internal combustion engine
  • Planes, trains and automobiles
  • Penicillin
  • The jet engine
  • Computing
  • Telephony
  • Rocket power
  • Putting man on the moon
  • The internet

See my post Everything We Know So Far for a more exhaustive list.

The point is these advancements have taken place over several generations but the one common thing is ‘human endeavour’.

Human endeavour did not accomplish these feats through hyper intelligence or fitness, the truth is the capacity for accomplishment is in every one of us, we just need to keep it foremost in our minds and channel it towards a goal.

There are some common themes to human accomplishment and these are in effect a set of 4 universal goals

  • To simplify and explain complexity – DISCOVERY
  • To go where no man has gone before – EXPLORATION
  • To improve time and cost efficiency – EFFICIENCY
  • To perpetuate and enhance the quality of life – LIFE
A dream becomes a goal when you take action towards achieving it

A dream becomes a goal when you take action towards achieving it

So even though the big tangible steps I listed at the start of this post have all been ticked off there is an infinite list of goals that can be stated whatever field you work in.

Start setting yours today, by setting and achieving goals you will be a happier more fulfilled person.
